Issue:
You would like to sync your Outlook calendar with your iPod, iPhone, or iPad. However, you only use Outlook without a Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino server back-end.
So the "ActiveSync" Exchange option is not available to connect your mobile device via Exchange Active-Sync add-in or Lotus Traveler.
Solution (iTunes w/Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007):
1. Connect your mobile device (iPod, iPhone, or iPad)
2. Wait for your device to start iTunes, if not running, or display in iTunes, if running.
3. Click the Devices Twisitie (triangle) on the left to display your mobile device if not automatically displayed.
4. Click on the device to configure. (e.g. Tripp's iPhone)
5. On the right, click the Info tab.
6. Under the Calendars heading, Click the Sync calendars from option. Choose the Outlook option.
7. Select either the All calendars or select the desired calendars to sync.
8. Click Apply.
Solution (Early iTunes 5 with Outlook 2003):
Use iTunes to do the synching for you.
1. Connect your mobile device (iPod, iPhone, or iPad)
2. Wait for your device to start iTunes, if not running, or display in iTunes, if running.
3. From the menu, choose Edit --> Preferences.
4. In the preferences window, choose the iPod / iPhone tab for you device.
5. Click the Calendar sub-tab on that tab.
6. Click the option to Synchronize calendars with Microsoft Outlook.
7. Click OK.
8. When the security dialog appears asking if you want to allow access to your Outlook calendar, allow it for the maximum time available.
Note:
Yes, the security only lasts for the time you select. After that, your next sync will throw up the prompt again.
Assumptions:
You are running Outlook 2003, or Outlook 2007, or higher on a Windows PC.
You are using iTunes 5 or higher.
