Task:
VMware storage uses Dell EqualLogic storage. A volume has reached notification warning threshold (90%). We need to expand / increase it.
Steps:
Part A - Expand the volume in EGM.
1. In the web browser, open the EGM web site. Activate, if prompted, and Login
(It's a Java app. Click Activate --> Allow and Remember, if prompted, to make the site work.)
2a. If you have an alert, then
- Open the bottom Alarms section, and select the volume with the alert, to bring up that volume's page.
2b. If you don't have an alert, then:
- Open the Volumes in the menu on the left.
- Select the volume you wish to increase size to bring up its page.
3. Under Activities, and Under Volume, click Modify settings option.
4. In the Modify volume settings window, select the Space tab.
5. In the Volume size field, increase the size of the volume (staying under the pool size). Click OK.
6. If desired, create a snapshot of the old volume just in case there is an issue during expansion. Name the snapshot and click OK.
(Make a written or mental note to remove after this process is complete.)
Part B - Refresh in VMware
1. In the web browser, open the Virtual Center vSphere Web Client, and Login.
2. On the home screen, click Storage on the left or the Storage icon on the right to view the Storage volumes available by Datacenter.
3. Expand the Datacenter location and select the Datastores option on the left.
4. Right-click the volume and select Settings.
(This will open the Manage and Settings subtab for the Storage.)
5. Under the Settings tab, click the Refresh button. Wait.
6. Still under the Settings tab, click the Increase button.
a. Select the back-end device Name for the volume again. Click Next.
