To get version of anti-virus definitions or license state quickly:
1. Notes Administration Client --> Server tab --> Server (Live) Console. Enter the following command:
2. tell sav info

To get version of software, open the SAV / SMSDOM Settings database:
1. Notes Administration Client --> Files tab --> SAV folder --> SMSDOM Settings x.x (sav.nsf)
2. If you see the about page, close it, of course.
3. In the small frame at the bottom left corner that says "Version Status", select the desired server in the drop-down.
(This assumes that you are using one replica of sav.nsf across the Notes Domain of mail servers.)

Note:
The screen will also show if the installed version is current (active or inactive) and list the latest release number and when released. However, I've noticed that the Latest Version fields are not always really the latest.

To Install a New Content (Antivirus) License Key:
1. Open the SMSDOM Settings application in the SAV folder. (See step one for path above).
2. Switch to the Settings view and select the document of the active group of servers.
3. Once open, switch to the Licensing tab and then choose the Installation sub tab. Instructions are there on this tab.
4. Click the Install or Upgrade License button on the action bar to install a new license key. Browse to the license key, select, and submit it.
5. This will create a new Check Installation Status document that displays the status of each server's nntask accepting the new license key. The status will blink occasionally as it auto refreshes to display the status of the license key updates.

New License Key Troubleshooting:
If the status updates don't mention the "Content" (anti-virus) key being updated or the anti-spam key being updated (assuming you paid extra for that one), then the license file is useless. You have the wrong one. The license file, which is XML, must include key XML elements for the STMP for Domino antivirus key. If not, you uploaded a blank. Go get another file from Symantec and do it again. You can also verify the keys were updated by issuing: tell sav info.

You can also put license files directly in the shared license file location on each Domino server:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Licenses

Note: After placing files. I had to issue tell sav quit, then load nntask, to see content license show the valid date. You can show date if you miss it on the startup with tell sav info, or the Check Status button when in the Assigned Servers document.

Setup Troubleshooting
Symantec has a basic setup/troubleshooting document to get you started when dead mail is piling up because SAV isn't scanning:
http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-gate.nsf/docid/2002101513411954

If you upgrade and now the system isn't stable, we had to go through quite a process of clearing and reinstalling SAV:
Database 'Support Reference', View 'Support Library\By Category', Document 'Symantec Mail Security Crash Upon Start'
